the new vinyl : Britt Bring it on Home to Me
I have been constantly been distracted by the season change. I keep dreaming of double chocolate pear cakes, burnt orange thigh high socks, slugs finding homes in damp leaf piles, moth eaten cardigans, Emily Haines lyrics "Will we always be like little kids running group to group asking who loves me? Don’t know who loves me! It’s pathetic. It’s impossible. Like girls in stilettos trying to run", decorating my eyes with gold powder, filigree dancing over everything, overdubbing Greta Garbo's silent films, cinnamon wafting out of cups, listening to Sam Cooke covers, battling knitting patterns for mittens, curling up on the couch to watch animated movies with subtitles.
This is by far my favorite time of year to daydream.
You?....

the new vinyl : you do it to yourself
I've been missing for a while but I do have a good reason. I am terrible with keeping in contact with anything. I forget to return phone calls. I don't reply to email. I will text you back but only when I have a free hand/my phone is in working order.
Let's see what have I been up to....(in no correct order)
*Drank gin out of a 12 oz mountain dew can with these fellas at an apartment show thrown by a boy that stands on his upright bass when he plays it.
*Saw kid stab another kid with a broken beer bottle in the face. (this incidence allowed me to id someone in font of a cop car with lights shining in their eyes. It was like a movie and it gave me chills.)
*Went to a "Chris got stabbed in the ear benefit concert". (broken bottle kid)
*Stopped traffic by eating the pavement at NAU the morning of graduation weekend.
*Can't remember most of Christmas eve except for what I was wearing.
*Laid off from two jobs in that span of three months.
*Told every manager at one job to "get off my dick".
*Took pictures of other people and their families/friends at the grand canyon.
*Spent three days trying to get off all of my halloween makeup.
*Took part in a whiskey-parade-road-flag-fight for eleven blocks.
*Had two amazing girls spend the holidays with me.
*Went to the hoover dam.
*Went to the police station high with a friend who needed to get her finger prints for her new national parks service job. (I read about the dangers of huffing and meth.)
*Kidnapped a few boys and made them sleep in my bed so I would be less cold through out the night.
*Sat on one porch for most of last summer.
*Was "white washed" on a patio outside of my favorite bar three times in one week.
*Cried all memorial day one year.
*Got a group of friends to go down with me to sedona every tuesday for three months straight.
*Almost finished a baby blanket.
*Bought three bikes and named them Herman, Irene, and Guillermo.
*Stopped wearing deodorant.
*Stopped closing my blinds.
*Started cutting my own hair.
*Hand rolled everyone's cigarettes for a summer.
*Played an awful drinking game with four ladies and a gent from the uk in an international hostel.
*Drank mudshark and played shitty pool with beirut.
*Saw henry rollins kick off his spoken word tour with muffin batter/flour all over me.
*Made life long friends with a "sometimes-barista heartthrob".
*Saw about a fifth of the people I love move to portland.
*Ran into the boy that asks me to move out here twice while in costume (looking like a tart on both occasions).
*Mailed a box of sheets and chewy mexican hot chocolate cookies to a fella I cared for.
*Started saying "fuck a duck!" all the time.
*Only played trivial pursuit while drinking champagne.
*Poked a death metal thigh tattoo on a gentlemen.
*Saw in elephant sitting next to me in the middle of a sweat lodge.
*Made and ate enough thai food to last me a lifetime.
*Sold overpriced beer cigarette girl style at a Willie Nelson show.
*Saw Zach Galifianakis' foot step away from me and onto and elevator.
Oh I still have a million things to add.
It looks like Olivia the pig climbing over one of the Chrysler Building's gargoyles.

okay so i met this kid when i first moved here. things happened. i lived with him for a month. things happened. he moved away and told me nothing could come of the two of us because i was married to the woods. things happened. i made him cookies and cream vegan cupcakes. things happened then nothing happened for a very long while. he visited me for thanksgiving. things happened. i made pie. we watched cheesy horror movies. we played house for three days. now i see this boy once every two months. he drives four and a half hours to get to kiss my face and make me smile. i miss this fellow. he misses me.

the new vinyl : west coast cuteness

my roommates are both moving to phoenix so ive been looking for some new digs for quite a while. ive sent out around 23 emails responding to craigslist posts today alone. then i came across this little jem today. in the middle of giving the same boring response email i decided to make it fun with this....
Hi I'm Kate. I'm 22 and obviously looking for a new place to live for the coming year. I'm originaly from North Carolina but I've lived in flagstaff since April and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. During the week I am involved with environmental work for the county and on the weekends I work as a barista downtown. I have no problems signing a lease and giving a deposit.
I'm terrible at filling out "possible new roommate" emails so here's some random stuff about me
{I tend to be a little quirky}...
- I'm really laid back and tend to get along with everyone even the people that drive me crazy.
- I have an weird obsession with really ugly things.
- America's Next Top Model is my worst guilty pleasure.
- I wanted to be gene kelly when I was little.
- I love to sit on a couch and watch old black and white movies whenever it's cold and rainy.
- I take millions of pictures of everything.
- I have the tendency to dress like a Librarian/old lady.
- One of my life goals is to own a cute little specialty bake shop and to live above it {very similar to Maggie Gyllenhaal's character in stranger than fiction}.
- I have a school girl crush on Henry Rollins.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do/ anything you need to know more about from me and I really hope that I hear something from you two ladies some time soon.

and holy shit they responded. this is the first and only response i have gotten during my three week search.
Hi Kate,
we'd love to meet you! where are you a barista? I am a coffeeshop nut.
The main things we're looking for in a roommate are someone who is laid back, but also responsible and clean (at least in the shared areas). We all get along very well with minimal drama. The house is always relaxed, and usually pretty quiet during the week since we are all busy (Michelle works as a school counselor and Denise is working on grad school apps....). There are also 2 adorable cats living here that belong to Michelle.
If this sounds good, give me a call! (928) 607-@% - and we can set up a time for you to see the house... tomorrow night (Weds) would be a very good time if that works for you cause we will all be around after about 7pm.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon! ~Lucy
jennis response: i hope tomorrow is adorable for you!!
me too!
